Abstract

One necessary requirement for an economically and flexibly performance through the whole supply chain of a company are controlled processes. It represents an essential basis for the competitiveness of an enterprise and is a necessary prerequisite for the rapid adjustment of a production to the current market changes and the realization of flexible customer requirements. Böhler Edelstahl GmbH has a wide variety of complex processes which are often difficult to match and plan. One of the most important goals of the company Böhler Edelstahl located in Kapfenberg, Austria is the continuous improvement of the logistics performance and the reduction of the complexity of all parts of production. This represents a major business objective and is needed to counteract uncertainties in production and the constant changing of the general framework of the company. Therefore a contribution is the optimization and coordination of the existing roll cycle of the block and multiline rolling mill to the following work places. Content of this thesis is the detailed analysis of the existing roll cycles for identifying those factors and weaknesses which are responsible for the capacity fluctuations. Finally, the consequences of the optimization opportunities of the affected business areas are shown. The first step is the identification and assessment of the current state in order to analyse the weaknesses and to identify the most important key indicators which are relevant for the continuous material delivery to the different labour units in the company. Based on the analyzed units the focus should be set on the roll cycles which influence the delivery to the following work stations the most. The aim of this work is to show proposals for the optimization of the roll cycle planning and a way how roll cycle planning should be done, that guarantees a continuous utilization of the work places.
