Abstract

The following thesis will be studying the advantages of having automated ventilation vs. conventional ventilation system. The need to reduce cost in underground mines has been a main topic over the last few decades. I will be able to identify some cost savings as well as environmental improvement for an underground mine by studying the ventilation process. The expected outcome I aim to achieve is to show the benefits of incorporating on- board communication with Sandvik equipment to control the ventilation system in different parts of the mine. With the automated system in place the reduction of total mining life and mining cost should decrease which would result in increase mining revenue in decreased time.
