Abstract

This thesis describes the behavior of different binder systems for the agglomeration of ultra fine iron ores. Therefore the reduction behavior of the produced micro agglomerates as well as their strength before and after the reduction process is investigated by means of the Pressure-Thermogravimetric-Analysis (p-TGA). The fundamentals of beneficiation, agglomeration techniques, reduction and fluidized bed technology are discussed. The methodology of test procedure and analysis is described to evaluate various binder systems for the application of micro agglomerates in the fluidized bed process. A binder system for the successful application of these micro agglomerates was found. This could be confirmed with tests on the 160 mm fluidized bed reactor at the Chair of Metallurgy. Finally an outlook on the future research regarding this topic is given.
