Abstract

Due to the fabulous look of rose gold jewelry, demand for rose gold articles is still increasing, but, the durabilty of these articles has decreased and lab tests have already revealed that one component adhesive, especially DELO SJ2750 tested in an artificial sweat solution, led to a higher stone fall-out rate. Specimens were prepared with 2 different gold-copper ratios and immersed in two different epoxy adhesives that contain amine. After cleaning, the samples were investigated with XPS. Samples with lower gold rates showed a tensity to corrode, because the amount of oxygen and nitrogen increased. Moreover, the cleaning process did not work well and the Threebond 2222W samples were still contaminated with adhesive. Additionally, all results are not significant and further tests should be carried out.
