    Abstract

The aim of this work is to characterize the transformation behavior and microstructure evolution during continuous cooling of a submerged-arc welded low alloyed, creep resistant 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel. The characterization was conducted via dilatometer- and DSC measurements as well as light optical microscopy examinations. Furthermore, Vickers hardness measurements were performed and the ferrite phase fractions were determined with an image processing program. Thereupon, three welding continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagrams with different peak temperatures were created to determine the influence of the temperature profiles which describe the different areas in the heat affected zones (HAZ) of the metal. These areas consist of a coarse grained, a fine grained and an intercritical HAZ. The microstructure constituents, which were observed depending on the peak temperature and the cooling parameters were high amounts of bainite and small fractions of ferrite at slow cooling rates.
