Abstract

Because of the high heavy metal content, dusts of iron and steel industry are problematic residues which generate high costs for the landfill disposal. Due to the high zinc content these dusts are also interesting as "raw material". From an economic and ecological point of view, landfilling of these dusts is hardly to represent. New methods and technologies must be developed to recycle and prepare this zinc-containing dust. A process development for the recovery of this zinc-containing dust is the so-called Flash-Reactor (RecoDust process). Together with the company Tribovent Process Development, voestalpine and the chair of non-ferrous metallurgy at the University of Leoben the chair of thermal processing built a flash reactor pilot plant to identify the limits of the usebility of this zinc-containing dust. Due to the scale of the plant technology planning and construction for the flash-reactor pilot plant were divided into priorities. The focus of I & C technology, as a part of the plant technology and the related issues of basic- and detailed engineering has been covered by this thesis.
