Abstract

At the Chair of Plastics Processing two different mixture geometries were computed by means of FEM. These mixture geometries are used at the company Engel Austria GmbH. The geometries were a lozenge mixture head (lozenge-mix-hurry and spiral shear part) and a lozenge-mix-hurry. For reason of comparison a metering zone was also computed using the FEM package Polyflow. Three mixture parameters were calculated as well as the temperature distribution and the pressure drop. Additionally further statistics evaluations were developed. The result was that the lozenge mixture head had the best mixture effect followed by the metering zone and the lozenge-mix-hurry. Subsequently these results were compared to practical results. Those were gained via optical evaluation of plates that were injection molded. The simulation results matched the practical ones just partially. The reason lies in the inadequate reproduction of the injection molding process using this simulation program.
