Abstract

This thesis deals with the conceptual design and implementation of a common database structure in a coke oven plant to gain valid information about current disturbances. The collected data provides a basis to choose the best mix of maintenance policies by executing weak point analysis (WPA), analysis of vulnerability management and thereby diminishing loss of equipment effectiveness. A large-size expansion of a coke oven plant requires an adjustment in maintenance and the associated strategy. Additionally the availability of supply and waste management facility plants can currently hardly fulfil the target coke production. Methods for weak point analysis are necessary to gain continuous and effective improvement of the maintenance management system. Appropriate maintenance policies must be chosen based on the technical feasibility and by considering the actual needs. Previously a standardised error and damage glossary is developed and an adaption of the corporate documentation take place. Records of former information systems are also prepared and added to the glossary to improve database. These steps are considered to be the first ones towards an integrated maintenance management information system. The new common structure enables analysis to pin point critical plant units to thereby facilitate reduction of the number of errors and increase equipment effectiveness. Based on this documentation weak point analysis are performed by adopting ABC analysis and comparisons of special operating figures to detect weak points. Data provided by the information system is also used from new established working groups to improve plant efficiency by eliminating errors and diminishing factory outage times. The implementation of a new appropriate maintenance policy represents a global and long-lasting change process. The adaption of an integrated maintenance management information system and the execution of structured weak point analysis are precursors for the continuous and effective improvement of maintenance management systems.
