Abstract

High-strength, corrosion-resistant steel components for the automotive industry are increasingly being produced in the press hardening process. For press hardening of hot-dip galvanized steel sheets, a heat treatment at about 900 ° C is subjected. The resulting formation of Iron-Zinc-phases is highly crucial for the corrosion resistance of the manufactured steel components. During the heat treatment zinc and iron form a reaction layer, primarily consisting of alpha-Fe(Zn), gamma-FeZn, gamma1-FeZn and delta-FeZn. In order to examine various properties of the phases, the manufacturing of each phase is the primary goal of this work. Various methods were used to prepare the individual phases. In addition to severe plastic deformation by high pressure torsion (HPT) of zinc and iron powders also PVD coatings were produced. The main attention was paid to the electrolytic deposition of zinc, iron and zinc-iron alloys. Electrolytes of various compositions based on sulfates and chlorides were used for the alloy deposition. A variation of the current density, plating time, temperature, flow velocity and the time and temperature of the subsequent heat treatment conducted different layer compositions and different layer structures. Samples with selected parameters for deposition and heat treatment were examined by light optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and X-ray (XRF, WDS and XRD)
