This diploma thesis deals with the local deformation behaviour of a powder-metallurgically produced aluminium alloy and its interrelation with grain orientation. The dependency of the deformation structures on the extrusion direction of the material is worked out. For this purpose, an interrupted tensile test was conducted. In the undeformed state and after each load step images of the specimen were taken in the scanning electron microscope. Two orthogonal surface areas were analysed. These images were processed using a system for automatic local deformation analysis. The procedure yields the strain and rotation fields for the different load steps. To determine the local orientation of the grains at the surface, electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD) scans were made before and after the tensile test. The material shows a very inhomogeneous deformation behaviour. Shear bands emerge in which the local strains have the double size of the global strain. Depending on the orientation, these shear bands have an angle of 90° or 45° to the direction of the tensile axis. Between the shear bands there are areas which show little deformation. The lateral distribution and the magnitude of the strain inhomogeneity shows only little change with increasing global strain.
