    This thesis addresses to diffuse dust emissions at bulk material handling and possible reducing measures. Selected passive dust reducing measures were evaluated by laboratory model tests, field tests and coupled DEM-CFD simulations. A transfer station between two belt conveyors, a bunker filling by truck unloading and by railcar unloading respectively were elected as examples. Ideas for improvement were developed by simulations, however different simulation approaches were compared in advance. Two-way coupled DEM-CFD simulations based on the Discrete Phase Model provided only dissatisfying results, whereas the one-way coupled Lattice-Boltzmann method was advantageous for pre-evaluation of air movements. Furthermore, a two-way coupled approach including coarse grained/upscaled dust particles was invented, to simulate sites in full scale. These "Discrete Dust Particles'' (DDP) were furthermore calibrated with a new designed calibration process to get quantitative statements about improvements in dust reduction. All simulations were executed with Rocky DEM, EDEM and ANSYS Fluent. Laboratory model tests of the bunker in scale of 1:4 showed a decrease of dust emissions of about 90% for material flaps and air baffle plates. The latter also showed in field test a respectable reduction of dust pollution. Due to massive wear and a short test period, the effectiveness of the deflection chute and spoon installation at the transfer point could not be verified. Nonetheless, simulation predicts a reduction of dust contamination.
