Abstract
Location decisions often entail long-term commitments of considerable company resources, and are therefore a crucial factor in their cost structure and potential for success. Due to the internationally linked world economy at a low market stability, an increasing amount of companies face the need to deal with location decisions. In the theoretical section of this thesis, a layout of the basics of strategic location planning is followed by an introduction of a procedure model that has been tried and tested in a company setting. The practical part of this thesis builds on the theoretical aspects, with a focus on the quantitative survey of the expected accumulating quantities of lithium ion device batteries and e-bike accumulators in 16 relevant countries. Further, a suitable region for the erection of a planned lithium ion battery recycling plant will be determined by use of the ‘Center of Gravity’ method, followed by a reassessment based on a checklist procedure that concludes the suitability of existing Austrian SDAG-sites for having a recycling plant annexe added. The outcome of this thesis is a recommendation for the location decision-making regarding the lithium ion battery recycling plant, in consideration of the possibilities of building a new site or adding an annexe to an existing SDAG-site.
