Abstract
The joining of different materials is of increasing importance for lightweight designs. Advantageous properties of material combinations can be used to obtain optimal structural properties. The current work is on the substitution of a welded steel-tube framework. Thus, joints of an alternative framework were designed and manufactured to connect tube elements, made from high strength materials, via an adhesive. The joints were made of steel, which is a material that combines excellent mechanical properties and low costs. For the manufacturing, the investment-casting process was chosen as thin wall-thicknesses are possible and because of increased design freedom. The development of the geometry was via FEM-analysis, the investment-casting process and the necessary quality assurance, using a computer tomography. Moreover, bonded joints and their strength were examined.
