Abstract
The European iron and steel industry produces an amount of about 1.4 million tons of flue gas dust annually through steel milling in electric arc furnaces. The high cost of disposal and the small recycling rate of basic materials like zinc and iron require new and efficient treatments. Reco-Dust, a newly developed process which combines the advantages of an oxidation and a reduction stage allows an economic output. This thesis provides a new concept for the coke feeding system of a treatment plant. Several parts of the proposed construction were built and tested. Depending strongly on the particle size, the conveyance of coke in a closed system turned out to require a high amount of force. In addition to the conveyance task, the design of the preheating unit is also investigated. Simulation of the counter flow heat transfer between the hot exhaust gas of the reduction process and the coke bulk showed that the coke heating treatment is possible without an external input of energy.
