    Abstract

Very large quantities of the most varied bulk material are moved by continuous conveying systems worldwide. At the feeding point the bulk material is accelerated to a specified speed and often the height level up to the discharge point of the conveyed material is also increased. This leads to an increase in the potential and kinetic energy of the conveyed bulk material. When the material is discharged, these energies remain unused and are lost for further use. In order to use part of this energy, Dr. Prenner developed a so-called solid state material driven turbine, which is driven by the bulk material to be conveyed. The present master’s thesis deals with the commissioning of a conveyor circuit consisting of belt conveyors in order to implement a solid state material driven turbine at a transfer point between two conveyers, so that the behaviour of this turbine in combination with electrical energy recovery can be investigated. In addition, the power that can be tapped mechanically at the turbine shaft should be converted into electrical energy by a suitable energy conversion system. In order to integrate the turbine into the conveying circuit, a turbine test stand will be designed and built. In addition, the fundamentals of electrical systems and their control options for the operation and control of the conveyor system are discussed. For the energy conversion of the mechanical energy of the turbine into electrical energy, various generators and their control are discussed. Subsequently, the possibilities of electrical power measurement are described. Afterwards, a control concept for the operation of the plant will be developed. In order to obtain data for the design and construction of the turbine test stand, discrete element simulations are carried out. A turbine test stand on the basis of the resulting data is developed. The conveyor system and the turbine test stand are then put into operation and the first tests are carried out. The aim of this master’s thesis is to estimate the possible efficiency of the turbine in combination with regenerative energy conversion on the basis of the test results.
