Abstract

A belt conveyor, which can be used for large differences in height and steep terrain, will be built with a new type of intermediate drives along the conveying line. At the top cover of the conveyor belt there are corrugated sidewalls as well as cleats and at the bottom cover there are elements with a gearing that are comparable to a rack. Teeth are assembled at the conveyor belts of the intermediate drives, which engage with the gearing of the conveying belt. In this way the driving forces will be transferred in a form-fitting manner and, in doing so, replace a central drive. Thus, the belt-tension is reduced and greater heights or steeper angles can be covered. With a specific type of the conveyor belt even vertical transport is possible. There are other methods for this type of requirements, but they are mostly limited by height and output. Belt conveyors with such intermediate drives can be extended as desired, which means that applications in new areas are possible. This system can compensate failures of drives by dividing the required power between other drives. Therefore, the risk of total failure is lower. The gearing to be used has already been defined and checked. The aim of this work is to examine the gearing in a dynamic test bench, which has to have all movements of the belt that can occur in real conditions. As a further test with material is planned, single components and assemblies shall be designed so that they can also be used there. Since this conveyor belt is still in its prototype phase, there have been some problems while teeth exited it. Solutions have been developed for this.
