Abstract

This master thesis assesses the SAP APO production planning system in context of a possible future use by the ISOVOLTA Group in the Werndorf plant. A critical analysis of the module gives the advantages/disadvantages of a decision to implement SAP APO in Werndorf. The first part is a theoretical overview of possible methods for qualitative assessment of a tool like SAP APO. The methods are explained as a reference for later chapters of this thesis. Another important part is the system itself where the main focus is on the architecture of APS. As SAP APO is just one possibility of an APS (Advanced Planning System) other products are described, too. The last part of this chapter is a detailed outline of SAP APO for an objective decision in consideration of advantages, disadvantages and the reasonability of an APS in Werndorf. In the second part an evaluation of an APS in context of ISOVOLTA Werndorf is performed. Therefore, the actual condition of the workflow is documented, respectively goals and requirements on SAP APO are identified. The needs of employees are considered as an important input to define the requirements on a production planning module. After gathering information about system and workflow environment of the module, a method to assess the tool itself is chosen. As a consequence of the evaluation, a proposition for implementing an APS under the aspect of objectivity concludes the thesis.
