Abstract

The effective friction at the die-workpiece interface is very signicant during forging processes, because it basically induences the process parameters. This outlines the back- ground of the development of this thesis, in which the expressiveness of the Ring-On-Disc-Test should be analyzed under forging conditions. This test is usually used for friction evaluation in the area of mechanical engineering. Thus the task was to design, construct and commission a testing facility, which reflects the Ring-On-Disc-Test under real forging conditions. In this work fundamentals about friction, the state of the art of friction experiments, the design and construction of the test facility, the development of an adequate control as well as the results of preliminary experiments can be found. Two test programs were developed and compared via pretests using Aluminum specimens. Moreover, the reproducibility of the results was proved. The test facility was conceptual designed as a "low-cost machine", nevertheless it could be confirmed, that it meets the required demands. Additionally, arrangements regarding a possible following CE-Certication were conducted.
