Abstract

This master thesis deals with the concentration of iron ore minerals with the process of high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) by using a matrix separator in dry mode. Based on a literature study the main aspects of magnetic separation with special regard on high gradient matrix separation in dry mode are discussed. In the second part of the thesis the design and construction of a laboratory test rig is outlined. The magnetic fields of varying matrix configurations are calculated by a finite element program and controlled for selected configurations by measurement and available analytical solutions. After the check the functionality of the used sensors and actuators a standard operating procedure is elaborated. Results of testing the separability of 3 different iron ores by following a defined parameter matrix are given in the final part.
