Abstract
In the course of this thesis the processability of samples of an Ethiopian gold ore was evaluated. The aim was to describe the crude material and analyze various processes to enrich the ore prior to the leaching step. This included the enrichment through density separation and magnetic separation. In order to evaluate the breakage characteristics of the ore an energy efficient optimized comminution circuit was adapted. During this thesis also instructions for analyzing the ore via lead fire assay were prepared. This included the determination of the quantitative values of additional aggregates which were added and the investigation of the mineral phases which were present. The chosen method was the reductive lead oxide melting in crucibles. A crucible furnace was used for the lead melting step. The thereby determined gold contents of the ore amounted to about 5ppm, which was consistent with the results of various external testing laboratories. At the end of this thesis calculations for the design of a thickener can be found.
