Abstract

Ultrasound is already used in many industries as an established technology. The applications range from medicine to the material testing and cleaning services of various objects or components. The use in dispersing, suspending and atomizing may be appropriate in special cases. With the ultrasonic applications for production equipment, a brand new method to remove various deposits can be tested in oil and gas industry. The possibility of manipulating the viscosity of crude oil is investigated in this thesis, as well as the possible destruction of solid methane hydrate and the possibility of removing paraffin and asphaltene deposits and scaling. The technical and economic importance of the removal of these deposits is calculated by using the program Prosper. This work also identifies the future research potential of ultrasonic waves in the oil and gas industry.
