Abstract

Velardena mine is located in Durango State, Mexico. The mine is located 120 km south from the city of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. The mine is communicated by the federal Highway No. 40. The mine belongs to the Mexican Group Penoles. The mine began production in the year 2012 with a capacity of 2.16 Million Tonnes per Year with an average ore grade of 4% of Zn and secondary products. The mine provides work to the town that has the same name as the mine, Velardena, and also to the different contractors working in it. The mining methods used in the mine are cut and fill in the Santa Maria Area, due to the ore shape in veins, producing this area a total of 1,000 tpd. The area of Antares uses the mining method of sublevel open stopping, due to the massive ore shape, having primary and secondary stopes, the area produces a total of 5,000 tpd being the most important area of the mine due to the volume produced. In this project it has been analyse the drilling pattern in the mining method used in Antares area, which is of vertical parallel drilling versus fan drilling pattern. The average drill length is of 20 m with a diameter of 114 mm [4 ½”]. The stope to be developed and drill in production was of approximately 50 m length and approximately 30 m width. Parameters used in this comparison were the following with its results: -Meter to be developed in the sublevel, for the case of vertical parallel drilling were a total of 280 m of a drift size of 5.0 x 5.0 m compare with the 80 m to be developed for fan drilling pattern. -Total of meters to be drilled in production in vertical parallel drilling were 4,320 m compare to the 11,832 m for the fan drilling pattern. With the cost of tools per meter of USD 9.07, had a total cost of USD 38,366.00 for vertical parallel drilling compare with the USD 107,316.00 of fan drilling pattern. -In costs of production explosive, the mine had an average cost of USD 8.02 per meter. The total cost in explosive for vertical parallel drilling was of USD 34,646.00 compare to the USD 94,892.00 of fan drilling pattern. In summary the total cost by using vertical parallel drilling is of USD 205,620, compare to the total cost of USD 240,096.00 of using fan drilling pattern. All the calculation was developed only for one stope, having better cost using vertical parallel drilling.
